Project Overview
Moving water was the request; the rock garden grew out of it. The feature recirculates from a buried basin, so there is no open standing water to maintain and the pump is reachable for winterizing.
Boulders were placed first and set into the grade rather than sitting on it, which is what makes a constructed outcrop read as natural. Gravel mulch between them keeps weed pressure down and drains fast.
Plant selection favors species that tolerate sharp drainage and reflected heat off the stone, so the bed holds up in a dry August without daily attention.
